Kongen-Thulnir is a cliffside fortress-city created by the ancient druidic Order of the Storm, and presently ruled by giants.

History

The druids stole the phylactery of Dragotha and secreted it in the Citadel of Weeping Dragons, a fortress that was part of the city of Kongen-Thulnir. The loss of his phylactery forced Dragotha to retreat from battle, but minions of Kyuss eventually, through their relentless assaults, reduced the numbers of druids so much that they were forced to retreat to the island of Tilagos. Subsequently, Kongen-Thulnir became occupied by a tribe of stone giants who had been allies of the druids. The giants made it their duty to guard the phylactery, and later something of a religious mission. As the centuries wore on, new tribes of giants replaced the old, but each came to see guarding the phylactery as their holy task. The city is presently (circa 595 CY) ruled by a dying cloud giant king, Achaime Silvereye.

Geography and climate

Kongen-Thulnir was built on the north side of Rift Canyon, about 190 miles north-northeast of Alhaster, one hundred feet below the top of the cliff.

People

Hundreds of giants dwell in the city today, including fire giants and hill giants. Also living in the city are orcs, bugbears, ogres, and troglodytes.

The giants are divided into three tribes, each rivals of the others.

  • The Khargakhan, or Riftlords, are hill giants and fire giants who remain faithful to their king, Achaime Silvereye, despite his failing health.
  • The Khargak-dwergun, or Riftcrawlers, are hill giants who split from the Khargakhan after a subchief, the hill giant Charlgar, attempted to overthrow King Achaime.
  • The Tiamikul Nul-Shada are a tribe of mostly fire giants (two of their leaders are fire giants; the third is a frost giant) who live only to protect the Citadel of Weeping Dragons from intruders. The ancient druidic magic has enforced its will on them, subordinating everything else to their sacred goal. The nature of what they guard is hidden even from them.
