The Men of the Rift refers to the former Bandit Kingdom, as well as the inhabitants of Rift Canyon.

Geography

People

During the Greyhawk Wars the forces of Iuz overran and captured the city of Riftcrag in the Bandit Kingdoms in the year 583 CY. Riftcrag was originally inhabited and ruled by humanoids: orcs, gnolls, bugbears, ogres and the like. These forces fled into the Rift Canyon to plan their revenge. They have been augmented by refugees from all over the Bandit Kingdoms, most notably those fleeing from the Great Lands of Reyhu. Some natives of the Rift and magically controlled monsters round out this group.

Humans among the Men of the Rift are as evil, chaotic and dangerous as the nonhumans among them. The inhabitants are clever and experts at setting traps and mountain climbing. Thieves are plentiful and berserkers are numbered among their warriors.

Government

These men and humanoids are lead by Durand Grossman, a charismatic human male rogue. Durand has proclaimed himself Plar of the Rift. He is bent on revenge against the Old One.

Iuz's forces made Riftcrag into their capital in 584 CY. A powerful wizard by the name of Cranzer rules here in Iuz' name. Cranzer is a member of the Lesser Boneheart. He maintains a watch over the Rift from five towers established for this purpose along the northern and eastern edges of the canyon. These towers are known as the Leering Keeps. He is struggling to contain the Plar's growing army, while keeping up attacks on the Earldom of the Tangles. Cranzer is attacking the forest itself with fire and axes in an attempt to get at the rebels there.

Religion

Erythnul is widely worshiped among the Men of the Rift.

Economy

The Rift contains mines which provide the best silver in the region. Unbeknowst to his cruel and unforgiving master in Dorakaa, Cranzer has made secret deals with the Men of the Rift in order to provide Iuz with the silver shipments personally demanded by the god.
