First appearance Castle Greyhawk

The Darkness That Holds All Shadows is a black cube in which the shade prince Zol Darklock was imprisoned.

The cube measures three inches on every side and is apparently made from malachite. Extremely observant characters will hear a faint whisper, in an archaic Suloise dialect, "Who are you? Where are you? What are you? Why are you? Who am I? Where am I? What am I? Why am I?" repeated endlessly, sometimes in other languages.

The cube levitates in mid-air, untouched by dust. It surrounds itself with darkness that cannot be dispelled with magical darkness or light.

The cube was created by the Suel archmage Xodast two centuries before the Rain of Colorless Fire. It was discovered shortly after the Rain by adventurers exploring the ruined Suloise city of Suendrako. Eventually it came into the hands of the master of Castle Greyhawk, who placed it in a specially locked and warded room on the 9th level.

Creative origins

The Darkness That Holds All Shadows was created by Scott Bennie for the apocryphal parody version of Castle Greyhawk.
